you could jailbreak it in UK, kind of hack it, and install programms you find in the internet. But I am sure that is tricky, and next time Apple updates the iPhone with iTunes, it could even stopp working. I would not risk it.
You can use at the moment webapps. you find them on the apple page, there are some good ones.
And in february Apple will make it possible for developers to create programms for the iPhone. So soon you will be able to install easily programms without having to worry about breaking your phone
