ps3 audio settings for playing blu ray, bitstream or linear pcm? What audio settings on my ps3 should I use when playing blu ray, bitstream or linear pcm? I am confused about my audio settings on my ps3, Whats the difference between the two settings bit-stream and linear pcm, I just want the best sound possible through my denon amp, I am using a HD-MI cable. On the ps3 web site it says Bit-stream Set to output audio with the original digital signal prioritized but it also says If [Bit-stream] is selected, some portions of the audio content may not be output. I just need to get the Original sound digital sound from the blu ray movies.

It depends on What kind of HDMI receiver you have. If your receiver supports audio via HDMI, you should connect HDMI from PS3 to receiver and set audio output format setting to Linear ( Lpcm ).By setting up this way, you will get DTS-HD MA and Dolby True HD or PCM 5.1 uncompressed sound from Blu-ray movies. Only set Bitstream if you’re using optical digital cable.

You want linear PCM, the PS3 only can bitstream stereo signals and not multichannel surround sound. You can also get the new audio features TruHD, DTS-HD and lossless audio which your PS3 will convert to LPCM and transmit to the Denon. Trust me you won’t tell the difference between PCM and higher priced Bluray players than can bitstream multichannel audio, but bitstreaming is a hardware issue and not a audio codec issue, and the PS3 can only handle stereo bitstreaming.PCM all the way.
